Postcards From Yedikule

Beyond the Time Yedikule is a project aimed at mitigating the negative impact of crises and disasters
caused by climate change on urban resilience. The project seeks to address the city’s resilience by
foreseeing and simulating future scenarios and resolving these through a design approach tailored to
these predictions.

In this context, to predict future scenarios, a GPTS system was developed to analyze climate change-related impacts in Yedikule and devise preventive measures. During the process, it was identied that the
eects of climate change are not only limited to primary impacts such as temperature variations but
also include unforeseen secondary eects like invasive species and ecosystem disruptions. These
impacts were assessed using large datasets and analyses to identify their presence in Yedikule.
Through research and analyses, it was determined that between 2025-2050, the rapid increase in the
population of the Asian Tiger Mosquito could pose signicant public health risks in Yedikule. Ecological
and technological solutions were implemented to mitigate this risk, making the city more resilient for
the future and today. Similarly, during the 2050-2075 period, articial intelligence predicted an ecosystem collapse in Yedikule due to the increase in soil pathogens linked to rising temperatures. To prevent
this, innovative and interactive solutions were developed to maintain soil health and ecosystem
balance.
Both scenarios and their solutions were diversied internally, and a multi-layered prevention and urban
resilience strategy was implemented. For example, in the scenario of pathogens disrupting the ecosystem, measures such as soilless agriculture equipment and green roof systems were also adopted. While
these measures were being implemented, the daily activities of the local population were considered,
ensuring that the city oers signicant advantages in terms of climate comfort compared to surrounding neighborhoods and districts.
To preserve Yedikule’s historical structures and textures for future generations, the project also
addressed potential climate change-induced damages to these cultural assets. With a comprehensive
protection and resilience strategy, Beyond the Time Yedikule aims to safeguard the area from current
and future disasters, establishing a more resilient urban framework through innovative methods and
decisions.
